IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a four-skills English language proficiency test used for study abroad, immigration applications, and university entrance examinations in Japan. IELTS has been taken by over 4 million people worldwide and has been adopted by over 12,000 institutions around the world, including universities and graduate schools in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Japan. If you are interested in teaching IELTS, please take advantage of this program and take the IELTS exam.

▶Subsidized tests

IELTS examinations administered at an official IDP test center in Japan.

Both computer and paper formats are acceptable. Both academic and general training modules are acceptable.

There are currently several organizations offering the same IELTS test in Japan. The 8,500 yen subsidy offered on the IDP official website is only available when you book and take the test at an IDP official test center. If you book and take the IELTS test through another organization, you will not be able to take advantage of the subsidy from IDP.

▶Eligibility

1)Full-time or part-time English teachers who work at elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, secondary schools, special needs schools, and colleges of technology among the schools stipulated in Article 1 of the School Education Law.

2)Full-time or Part-time English tesachers who work at vocational school, junior college, universities, cram school or language school.

▶Application Process

STEP1: Please enter your name, organization, preferred test date and test site, etc. on the "Application Form for the Examination Fee Subsidy System" (bottom of this page) and send it to us.

STEP2: Once we confirm that you are eligible for this program, we will send you a confirmation email.

STEP3: Go to the IELTS booking site of IDP and apply and pay the test fee by yourself.

STEP4: After you finish the test, please enter the bank account information for the grant and send it to us.

STEP5: After the results are announced and the bank account information is confirmed, the grant money will be transferred to the designated bank account within one month (excluding holidays and national holidays).

▶Test Result

IELTS results are not given on a pass/fail basis, but on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest) for each of the four skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). Individual bands for each skill and an overall band score are given in increments of 0.5 (e.g., 6.0》, 6.5, etc.).

Scores can be viewed online and will be mailed to your home.

  • Computer-delivered IELTS: 3-5 business days after the test date

  • Paper-based IELTS: 13 days after the test date.

  • Computer-delivered IELTS: Weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays (varies by test center)

  • Paper-based IELTS: Thursdays and Saturdays (about 3 times a month)

To register and sit for IELTS, you will need to have a valid Passport .

▶Test Date Changes/Cancellations

If you wish to cancel or change your test date, please contact the test center as soon as possible. We will guide you through the process of refunding or rescheduling your test date and the necessary fees.

▶What to bring on the day of the test: Passport

If you are taking the test at an official IDP test center, you do not need a color copy of your passport. Writing materials will be provided at the test center.
