We are writing to inform you that, from 1 May 2025, all test takers must complete their written elements of the IELTS on Paper test using a black ink pen.

Pens will be provided by your test centre and personal writing stationery is not permitted.

We are making this change to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the test answer scanning process. It helps us to speed up the marking process, so that we can get your results to you as quickly as possible.

Kindly be aware that personal writing stationery is not allowed in the test room. If any unauthorized items are found, unfortunately, this could result in your test not being marked, disqualification from the exam, and a suspension from taking IELTS for up to five years.
